Hexafluoroethane is a fluoroalkane and a fluorocarbon. It has a role as a refrigerant. Hexafluoroethane is a colorless, odorless gas. It is relatively inert. The mixture is nonflammable and nontoxic, though asphyxiation may occur because of displacement of oxygen.
