Hydrogen cyanide is a one-carbon compound consisting of a methine group triple bonded to a nitrogen atom. It has a role as a poison, an Escherichia coli metabolite and a human metabolite. Hydrocyanic acid, aqueous solution, with not more than 20% hydrogen cyanide is a clear colorless aqueous solution of a gas. Has a faint odor of almonds. Can evolve hydrogen cyanide gas, which is (barely) lighter than air.
