Can ATEX-certified gas detectors handle the heat of heat treatment?

excodexEnglish

Methane detection in high-temperature environments presents unique challenges regarding sensor calibration and enclosure integrity. What specific solutions or protocols have you implemented to ensure reliable operation in these conditions?

A practical point first: every certified detector has a marked ambient temperature range, and the certificate is only valid within it. Near furnace doors and hoods, the local temperature can exceed that range even when the room itself feels moderate.

What we would like to learn from members:

    • Have you measured the actual temperature at the detector location before installation?
    • For methane near hot surfaces, which sensing principle has been more stable for you: catalytic or infrared?
    • How do you handle calibration when the detector is in a hard-to-reach or hot location?
